Abilities

Concepts

Abilities are properties which govern the behavior of an Institution or User within the Banno domain.

Institution Abilities are the core set of permissions defined at the time the institution is established. They serve as the default baseline for all users within that institution.

User Abilities are managed through a multi-tiered calculation:

  1. Institution Default: Every user inherits a standard set of abilities defined at the institution level.
  2. Other Overrides & Restrictions: Further non-surfaced configurations & restrictions are applied to groups of users under certain circumstances.
  3. User Overrides: Individual users may have specific abilities that override the previous defaults & overrides.

The final calculated abilities for a user takes all of these factors into account. When requesting abilities for a specific user id, the response always contains the final post-override set of values.
